Kardashians vs Bashar al-Assad

My late local news has recently led with gritty stories involving cats abandoned in dumpsters, a dog chained to a tree, and another dog who was duct taped.

In roughly that same time-frame Bashar al-Assad has bombed hell into Homs, (with Russia and China’s implicit support), Boko Haram has slaughtered hundreds of Christians in Nigeria, and lesbians in South Africa have been subjected to sexual atrocities called ‘corrective rape‘, which is intended to ‘rape them straight.’ And these are just the first few stories that come to mind.

And as mind-boggling as the juxtaposition of injured animals to murdered humans is, it is far more shocking to realize how much more fluent we are in Kardashian than in compassion.

Exclusive Christianity is a contradiction in terms. And while there are countless excuses for prioritizing entertainment over awareness, there are few justifications.

I believe it’s time to open our eyes and let our tears flow freely. It’s time to open our hearts and pray diligently. It’s time to open our minds and create solutions.  It’s time to open our wallets and give generously.

If any of this has impacted you, I highly recommend that you take the initial small step of bookmarking and regularly visiting the Voice of the Martyrs website. I have found their website to be an invaluable source of information and insight, running the gamut from utterly tragic to piercingly hopeful.

And before you click away from this post, join with me in praying:

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
